Doing PA In Anderson Primary

Hi guys, long time no posts, it’s been quite a while since I last posted..
Indeed it has been, after so many busy days, I dun think I can call this a holiday…it’s tiring to have lots of commitments during the holidays but I’m glad today I have managed to tackle one project assignment down.
Well, in case some of my juniors are wondering why I didn’t turn up from the sectionals today (14/11/08)..it is becuz
I AM DOING SOUND FOR ANDERSON PRIMARY!
I hope that would be the last time I said it…
Yeap…like always, it’s their annually prize giving ceremony today, so they decided to come up with some performance to make this ceremony more interesting/ less dry for the parents and Primary 1 to 6 prize winners, and also to probably showcase their talents to the VIP guest of today, Mrs Esther Mok. (If interested, go find out who she is).
Well, all I can say about today’s programme, 一帆风顺. Indeed it was very smooth flowing today as everyone was well rehearsed for today’s program, so setting up the microphones and props were all efficiently done before we knew it. In fact we actually ended earlier today, since everything was ready way before the intervallic prizes were given out…so the performance could start immediately the moment curtains were drawn opened…
Well, you guys wonder what I mean my “intervallic” prize giving session. To put it simply, we actually classified our prizes into different categories and split them to be given out at different parts if the ceremony instead of giving them all out one shot…
Because we had like hundreds if prizes winners, so this event would be EXTREMELY DRY if they had not given the prizes during different parts of the show. We had each aesthetic performances, made up of mainly a Brass Band, Gymnastics, Chinese Dance, Guitar Ensemble and Gu Zheng Ensemble, from the school in between each category of prize of be given out so to make it less boring.. Even then, it was very boring during the prize presentation as we had 50 over students to present the prize to, so my bro and I were like either dozing off or visiting the toilets while we still can before the next performance start.
My bro and I were exhausted during the prize giving ceremony too, partly becuz we woke up at 6.30am today and we were like rushing to have our own breakfast while doing PA. In addition to the boring prize giving ceremony, we could hardly keep our eyes open.
Still, we had to be alert, for any hiccups on the way, like feedback on the condenser microphones and playing selected background music tracks for selected important prizes. Well, not all things are flawless which was during the Gu Zheng ensemble performance. That was that we did not have any sound for half of their performance…it was actually because the switch on the condenser microphone was left off! So my bro was helplessly trying to get the stage crew to switch the condensers on. In the nick of time before their next piece, our very efficient sound crews sprung into action and switched the mics on!! So, we were live again…
Another was actually during the Anklong performance, we all I can say is that they went a little out of timing. The melody didn’t managed to catch with the beat of the bass instrument, so it sounded quite uncomfortable. Still, they managed to end together as an ensemble; after all they are Primary 1 & 2 only!! Which I would say it’s a lot of hard work for them as juniors of this school
So, for the rest of the concert, everything else went smooth, including the finale item, which was singing our theme song for the ceremony, Westlife – I Have A Dream..
i have a dream - westlife
Other than that, we heaved a sigh of relieve as the event was finally over. OVER FOR GOOD!!! Well, we met many grateful ppl on our way and they were mesmerized by our mixing skills saying this school system could never have sound better without us there…
All in all, thanks be to God to make this such a successful, memorable event for every guest today, especially our guest of honor as she can have a early dismissal to her next school performance.
Well, I guess that’s all for now, maybe I will post again maybe I won’t..
Stayed tuned!

Reflections of the first week of the holiday

okay..first week of the holidays was the start of a busy holiday...
  1. CO
  • what more to expect other than holiday practice schedules
  • honestly i must say it is not really the many holiday practices that kills
  • but rather it is the rapid changes that have to be made to sectional practices
  • Combined practice schedules are only confirm after one combine practice
  • So as usual sectional practices will have to give way to the combined one
  • Now the problem is...CLASH!!!
  • Combine practice clashes with the sectional practice
  • our fixed practice schedule for the sectional practice will have to be change..
  • what a waste of effort for our trainer..
  • So learning point to my ex-cos is
  • plan ahead of every practice so to make sure none clashes with the timing of sectional practices
  • one good point i must say is..
  • that luckily Jason informed me in advance so that I can make the changes in schedule...
  • and discuss the changes with my trainer..
  • so currently the schedule is:

2. Upcoming Music School Performance

  • For this there's not much of a problem since I more or less got the hang of it..
  • yea..for those who dun know, i'm performing on the 23/11
  • it will be held at verve music school AMK branch
  • so those who wants to come can see me for more details
  • admission is free!!
  • anyway I'm just worried about whether I can find time to rehearse with my singers
  • I'll be playing the song 'Beauty And The Beast'
  • So, I 'll have to find time for rehearsal through this hectic schedule
  • and find time to perfect it..
  • wish me luck for the performance as I face the music
3. Qualifying for Physics
  • well, most of my Sec3 friends would know i flunked physics
  • so i hope that i will be able to take physics next year
  • in order to do so...i will need to pass the qualifying test as mentioned in my last post
  • so i will have to study HARD for physics and cope with my other subjects in Sec4..
  • So, i'll have to start now b4 it's too late
4. Holiday Homework
  • okay, this is actually nothing to worry much about
  • I have like 2 months to complete them
  • i'm just worried that I might take advantage of the 2 months and neglect my task
  • So, I will make it a point to do homework everyday when i'm free
so, for now..i guess that ends my posts for today..hopefully i will be able to fulfill my holiday task and be ready for Sec4 for next year...
THE Os ARE COMING....

Well, it's like..
Create yours at BlingyBlob.com!
So, I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the holidays...
Well, my class still have a Chemistry Remedial on Friday at 9.30, so after that we can all relax for a while b4 starting to prepare for the Sec4 year.
Well, I'm receiving my report book tmr..so..yea..do pray hard that i can be promoted to sec4 especially physics, I was 'coordinately invited' to a physics remedial on the note stated:
  • Bring your 5-year Series
  • 3-6: Thursday, 30 October, 10am to 12pm
  • Consultation Hours: Monday, 3 November, 2pm to 4pm
  • Mock Qualifying Test Tuesday, 11 November, 10am to 12pm
  • Physics Qualifying Test : 1st week of term 1 in 2009
  • Those who fail will have to drop Physics or Convert to Combined Science
So..

So yea..I hope to continue as a double science student so that it won't be too troublesome to adapt to a new class totally..or adapt to a new system..
after all it's the same wether you drop Physics or get in to combined...you study one Science
well, heard that we'll be going to Science Center I think tmr...yea...after we get our report books.
It is also the last day of school so must clear lockers & desk, clean classroom as usual and of course arrange the tables and chairs which we would have already done so..
Someday during the holiday I will blog again, may not be in this style of writing, and may not be the same blogskin as you see: Bass Addiction. Planning to source for a new one..or otherwise improve on the same blogskin
Till then, I wish all my readers a fruitful and enjoyable holiday

Script Check

Looking at the way many ppl has shared their disappointment on the result they get, it really was quite worrying for me..people who are academically better than me in every way all seems to be breaking down from their EOY results..
So if they say that messed up the examinations, I would have wrecked the papers BIG TIME..
Well, things are not as bad as I expect to be, I thought I would fail all or rather most of the papers that were mainly more difficult as mentioned in my previous post. Quite surprised I manage to barely passed it.
Still, it STILL DID NOT reach MY EXPECTATIONS of 15 points!!!
there goes the agreement on a new bike...yea..I made a deal with my mom that if I scored 15> points for my FYE aggregate score this year..but I guess all is lost for the wish of a new bike or even to get the bike repaired...but that's not the main thing. To me, it was more of a bonus and a motivation to score 15 points and below...
Now from what I have heard and seen from my papers and my friends about the script check I missed yesterday..one thing's for sure...I have managed to pass at least 3 subjects..leaving the my geography elective and music pure(Mr. Heng told me that he might not conduct a script check if he can't find time)...
So moving on...things will have to change..somehow change. it won't be easy to make that change. Turning officially into a full-time mugger does not feels right for me as I feel that I should be mentally prepared anytime even when the exams comes...sigh..
Alright, to all my schoolmates out there.."Accept the Things that can't be changed, and Change the Things that we can change" we might not be able to change the final grades of the EOYs, but we can definitely change our studying methods and attitudes towards studying...

Little Achievements

Ah...finally no more chinese intensive programme though a test will be conducted...no more examinations till nxt year...well, today was supposely script check but I'm on MC today...can't wait to get my first 3 papers and the another 3 back tmr.

I feel like bringing just my pencil box and file to school for the next few days since all I need is a pencil and something to keep my papers...but then again I guess a bag is still ideal.

This two days I finally get to do something ON MY OWN, which yea...was pretty much disatisfied becuz I made lots of small mistakes which were aviodable. Such as saying too many details about the problems in my phone and expecting one day for my sickness to be gone...

Well, some of you might have noticed I am now using a crappy looking Nokia 6020 (i dunno if anyone can recognise). My phone was sent for repair as it kept turning randomly wether it is playing music or juz simply doing nothing, NOTHING at all. So, things were going quite my way since me and my bro didn't have to wait 2 hours & 45 minuets like the last time in Nokia's customer service for phone to be registered. After all its Sony Erricson now, gone were the days our family used Nokia handphones with the exception of me currently since I need a phone.

Well, within 15 minuets I found myself sitting in front of a saleswomen asking, "How may I help you?" And so, i began telling her about the problem i faced using my phone like the USB and headphones output was loose and the phone kept shutting down on its own.. and here's how i made the mistake:

Normally, you would say "my phone kept turning off by its own."

well, due to my 'extra' nature I would say, "My phone keeps turning off like when I play music, Is there a auto shutdown fuction installed in my phone? "

and because of my question in yellow font, I got myself embarassed. and becuz of the extra part in green and for my impulsiveness when I did not read through the invoice b4 signing it...the staff typed the first problem in the invoice as, "Phones turns of when listening to music"...which was definately wrong since it this happens all the time.

This time round I was lucky that we managed to edit the invoice shortly after I left..which was really a "Thank you Lord" for me.. Also, after this event...I think its time I start thinking for an offical signature for future use in case I have to sign another invoice.

well, another achievement today, visting the doctor alone...yea i'm received an MC today from the doctor due to very bad flu...the nuisance virus that mutates annunally. Well the first thing we all do..visit the doctor. As usual I headed to the clinic, only this time, i do it alone...honestly today is the first time I ever visited a doctor alone..it's a embarassing thing I guess since I bet many other would have visited the doctors at an earlier age.

Well, everything was pretty much the same except that now I had to register my name on my own, and of course the clinic changed its air-conditioner from a National to a Panasonic...but that's not the point. Well, waited for quite a while for the doctor...luckily i brought my handphone to entertain myelf for the time being.

I was so engrossed in my game that I did not realise it was my turns untill the second call of my name..so, I reluctantly walked to the door, knocked and open. There was the same doctor as usual writing notes and using his computer before he greeted me..

As usual, becuz i was 'extra' i asked the doctor for guidelines on how to start since it was my first time. never did i expect the doctor mistaken me for my elder brother.

He replied," I thought you came alone the last time. You even talked about the air-con..."

At first I tried recalling when I went alone and talked about the air-con becuase though I have some knowledge on air-cons, but I wouldn't dare to talk about air-conditioners and their problems like my brother does.

Later he flip to the cover page of my medical log and realised that I was the younger one..he told me that we both looked too alike nowadays and that I seem to be taller than my bro..well, I was a little fluttered and a little surprise. Many of my friends said that we din't look alike due to our large age gap of 11 years. Well, I guess times have changed as people mature and adapt to changes.

And so after the checking of the thorat and heart-beat I collected my medicine. Well, indeed this two different crisis or rather situation were sure little achivements and stepping stones in life that sometimes needs some reflections to realise them..Well, I'm glad I managed to..it's all written in this post.

Now that its nearing the holidays, perhaps we could all share our plans for the holidays and our expectations of next year in advance.

Exams....

Exams...exams..exams, when will the reason for not blogging be something else rather than the exams..well, as usual...i won't hav to elaborate on that topic...
basically this year's exam was both equally easy and yet hard. Indeed, it was like 1&1/2 week long for me and just one day shorter for those not taking lits, music , art and PE as a subject. but one thing is for sure...
EXAMS ARE OVER!!!!!!!!
well, yea..no more countdown for once...lol
so basically this was how I felt when i took this FYE papers...

the result above may not be accurate as it is a bias source...
so I was practically busy the whole of those days, having examinations everyday except for Wednesday which was...THANK GOD...a chance to catch up with my mugging schedule
However, I still have lots more to go...a smaller component of my music which is the "music practical"...on SATURDAY...first time i have exams on weekends, plus it could clash with my piano lesson..so I end up being the first candidate to perform..sigh...no time to rest yet, must clear this practical then I can relax...sigh I starting to miss my lower secondary dayzzz...
but no worries, I guess there's always a time to rest..at least the burden of FYE is gone and I still have a marking day for me to hibernate...yea your eyes aren't lying HIBERNATE for good..so till then, we I come across important events...will do my best to keep this blog updated as much as my ability can do...

Sister's Day Reflection

hi, guys back again for another update... well, just to let my non-church readers know that I had been recently caught with a church event, Sister's Day.
  • Purpose: To show how much we gentlemen appreciate our ladies in Student Fellowship (SF), and to stress the importance of having our sister's in SF
  • Theme: Masquerade (Prompt Night), hence we wore mask that night...
So, of course everything when quite smoothly surprisingly despite only having our last and only rehearsal on that day itself, I guess our gentlemen here are pretty good at impromptu events...we were like. panicking everywhere. but managed to make things go according to as plan. it was tiring since I happen to be the sound man that day that was running up and down the church...but I did what I had to do:
  • setting up mics
  • Preparing a cable for the piano
  • Prepare audio cable and portable system for the dining area
  • and prepared audio cable at the auditorium for entrance music
and so on...
Well, despite our successful event,I still feel that this event can be improved if we had rehearsals earlier so that we know what we are suppose to do on that day rather than last minuet actions on that day..it put a lot of us under lots of pressure
okay..probably the reason why we had no rehearsals earlier was probably becuz we had not found our members to serve in this event..indeed it was hard since exams are round the corner for most of us, especially those taking O'and A'levels..so it was indeed hard since we did not manage to handle our time well...
However, I would like to praise and thank those who had really participated in the event as despite many challenges and pressure from the last minuet event, we all manage to pull through this difficult time of embarrassment for some and anxiety for others, to serve God and to fulfill our purpose to show the importance's of our ladies.
Especially those in the Skit and the Fashion show, it was really an impromptu time.
okay...the fashion show, juz to elaborate, is where the girls get the dress up our male superhero "models" to their own liking to "give them their own power" or rather to dress them up according to how they want them to be...the "models"will be confronted with questions by the judging panels where the winner is decided by the "model"that can best make his speech or talk in the way they were created by the girls. therefore, they are not speaking in with their own personalities but rather the hero that they are called and dressed up to be...
indeed it wasn't as simple as it looks as we had funny names like, "Blossom the Awesome" who claims that he understand girls the best, "Mr. Save it all"who claims that he can rescue anyone in need and so on...so indeed it was up to the "models" to display their creativity and innovation which I myself might not be able to do so...
As for the skit...we actually had a interactive skit where we get the girls to come up on stage and act to change the outcome of certain scenes. The original skit would be played first b4 the girls get the chance to turn the fate of the story. We had 3 superheroes namely: Ultraman, Spiderman and Pikachu...lol. It was hilarious, especially the way they had fought the giant hamster...i will try to upload the video...
For the skit, though it was not as hard compared to the the fashion show since the results were pretty expected. But it was indeed very hard for our actors to prepare the skit since they only had like one practice to run the show...so indeed I salute to them for their great planning place into the skit itself, indeed it was mainly impromptu all the way when it comes to acting....
Well, the other thing that was quite good was the song dedicated to the girls...it was composed by seb and mat in juz a very short time, it was definitely a touching time for all the girls present as the boys all went up on stage to sing the song. Though me and the AV team did not went up to sing since we had to control the sound and slides, we had to eventually come up on stage for the credits...
We ended of that night we a very romantic supper that night...indeed it was very tempting to start a date that night but i was too caught with the background music that the temptation somehow faded away...well, probably a good way to control myself is to find other things to do I guess...
Well, there are many learning points that we all can learn from this event, these are mine:
  1. Have more than one rehearsals to be fully prepared
  2. Have everything ready b4 the second last rehearsal
  3. Do not spend too much time on planning till there's no time to rehearse
  4. Next time when playing background music...bring along a laptop that has Itunes or Windows Media Player so that a playlist can be created for selected song to make things easier
  5. Don't use PSP to play music
  6. Book the venue in advance for any rehearsals needed
  7. have better balloons so that they do not subsequently burst after a few minutes consecutively
  8. use color filters with coating if needed to be placed on spotlights
  9. Be more organized and know where to be at the right time
  10. To get new 9V batteries for the wireless microphones
  11. To prepare PA items earlier so that a collar microphone can be used
  12. to brief musicians on the way instruments should be connected to the mixer
Well, from these points, i come to realise that with more rehearsals, these problems could have been prevented..as the saying goes, "you life is too short to make all the mistakes in the world" I hope that the sisters will learn from our mistakes and avoid these problems...
With that, I 'll look forward to Brother's Day next year where it is the girls' turn to plan this event for us...
