CHSCO Mission Accomplished

This year..I can finally be at peace, because CHSCO has finally clinched

GOLD WITH HONOURS!

so I may now retire from my Assistant Section Leader (ASL) posts in peace, of course after choosing the next SL to take over the group. This year's SYF result was really by God's Grace which showered on CHSCO, otherwise we wouldn't even stand a chance against other superb chinese orchestras from Hwa Chong and Evergreen.
but before I go into the details...it's first of all time to announce the answer to the previous challenge. Here is the answer for the previous challenge (please increase your speaker volume):
This is Home - switchfoot
well, not really a well known song isn't it? that was the piano rift for switchfoot's this is home. Now for the next challenge(please boost your bass at 80hz):
SONG REC TEST8.mp3 -
I'll give you a clue, it is by the same band as the previous song.

As usual:

  1. Listen
  2. Guess the Song name and Artist
  3. Find out the answer on my next Posts
okay...basically here is an account on what happened after we perform after SYF:

As we walked out of the Conference Hall, we got increasingly worried for our Gold with Honours award. We had messed up the ending part of our set piece, 蝉歌。 Our only hope was left on our choice piece, 梦蝶, which could have been better if I had followed the conductor’s hand closely

Our goal this year was to clinched the Gold with Honours award, to prove that we, Musicians of Catholic High Secondary Chinese Orchestra (CHSCO), is worthy of the Gold with Honours award, and that our previous Gold with Honours award was not by chance, but by our hard work and determination.

We all walked out of the hall and we were greeted by 龙老师‘s teary eyes. She told us that whatever the results may be, so long as we have done our best, she will be satisfied. As usual, we made our way down to the lobby with our instruments, putting them back into our bags and cases and divided them to heavy instruments which were to be placed in the lorry, and light instruments which will be carried on the bus. After putting my instrument in the loading bay, I hurried back indoors hoping that I have not missed out any chance of entering the conference hall. To my dismay, I learned that we had no access to the conference hall until every school have finished performing.

We waited impatiently outside the concert hall, eagerly waiting for the ushers to grant us access to the concert hall. Some of us went to the toilet in hope that they would hear “Catholic High School Chinese Orchestra Gold with Honours!!” through the PA system and rejoice in the toilet like how it was done during our last SYF.

I strolled down the stairs to the vending machine and bought myself a drink hoping that it would allow me to cool down, but it did not. My mind raced rapidly, thinking of how I should face my seniors when I have failed to mould my juniors into CHSCO members of Gold with Honours standard, thinking about a speech I have to make after the SYF to spur my juniors on, thinking of how my efforts of waking up early in the morning for morning practice would have just gone down the drain if we had not clinched the Gold with Honours award for our SYF.

I dragged myself back to the entrance of the conference hall, this time, I saw that our orchestra was lined up, looking ready to barge into the conference hall.

“This shouldn’t take too long” I mumbled to myself.

I slipped my way through the crowd and joined the queue, beside my CCA mate Guo Chang. We were acting childish, playing ‘scissors, paper, stone’ when he asked everyone to join in for a game of “Heart Attack”, while waiting for the other schools to enter the conference hall.

Soon, it was our turn to take another step into the concert hall, this time not on stage, but to the seats all the way at the back where I had a great view of every seat on stage. At this juncture, I had finally understood what my conductor mean when he said that even a movement of an eyeball can be seen offstage by the audience. Indeed, even a person who sits right at the back of the hall will be able to spot this if he or she is sharp.

The air in the hall was rather arid as first, all the schools that had performed on that day (22 April 2009), were eagerly waiting for the results, expecting it to be released soon. This year, things were different; the judges could have had a hard time deciding who to give the awards for they took what seemed like forever to make the final judgement.

While waiting, some students had their hand phones out, frantically pressing the number pats, some who decided to be silly, started clapping their hands, attempting to trick others to clap. However, had failed and was even jeered by most of the students in the hall.

I decided to ignore the silly jokes, took out my earphones, and listened to music while taking a short nap. Somehow, the tense environment slowly disappeared when I lay there.

Finally, the door opened, and five gentlemen (I reckoned) walked through the grey doors as everyone appalled to welcome them, they were the panel of judges of this year’s SYF. The MC later walked in and introduced them individually, of which one of them was the composer of蝉歌; another was a conductor from CCAB I think.

Now, the moment the CHSCO, No. 55 of the SYF competition, have been longing for this past 2 years has arrived, The Results. The MC started reading the results starting from Chinese Orchestra No. 49. When the MC announced that Evergreen Chinese Orchestra had the Gold with Honours award, Evergreen screamed loudly, till my ear drums almost burst. At this instant, most of us were getting anxious. Now that 1 Gold with Honours award has been taken away by Evergreen, will we be able to clinch the Gold with Honours award? Will be get Gold instead since Hwa Chong was bound to get Gold with Honours?

Then, it was No.55, Catholic High School. The air-condition suddenly felt colder, as all of us gripped on to our seats as we watched the MC bring her microphone up and opened her mouth.

“No.55 公教中学, Catholic High School,” she paused, “荣誉。。” and the rest was lost in our cheering, our entire Chinese Orchestra jumped out of their seats and punched the air. It was as if it was a miracle, as if all of this was probably just a dream while I am still sleeping in the conference hall, but the pinch on my hand was enough to prove that this was reality. We had accomplished our mission; we have retained the Gold with Honours.

After all the results had been released, we started singing our school song and cheering as we marched out of the conference hall, like soldiers back from a victory war. We shouted and yelled until some of us lost our voices. Some were just too exhausted to cheer as they had used up all their energy during the announcement of the result.

This year’s bus ride back to school was probably the quietest as compared to the previous SYF where we were so noisy that the bus driver reprimanded us. Guess we were all tired after 2 years of energy-draining and stressful days in our practices, and deserve some rest.

From here, I have finally seen how my hard work as a ASL in my tan bo group have paid off, though it was mainly the effort of my juniors and peers which has allows our Chinese Orchestra to once again attain the Gold with Honours.

As I retire as an ASL in CHSCO, I pray that CHSCO will continue to strive on to retain the Gold with Honours standard our seniors and peers have set, and that they will learn to accept any result they get during the SYF Central Judging, be it good or bad. May the Love Of God shine through every member of CHSCO

Term2 post

Hi guys, long time not blog...again O'level are drawing nearer as I type or as you read..Yes, and here is the Answer to my previous challenge: Rihanna - Unfaithful - Rihanna

did you manage to guess it?? I suppose most us did, but it's okay if you did not get it. you'll get your chance now, for your next challenge would be this:

Song Rec Test 6.mp3 -

now, this is a challenge, isn't it? Well, i guess those who have watched Chronicles of Nania or had its soundtrack should know this.

As usual:

  1. Listen
  2. Guess the Song name and Artist
  3. Find out the answer on my next Posts

Good luck!

okay...SYF is drawing near..and I just received news that we're going to have a attire spot check on Monday. CO members, Refer to http://chsco.blogspot.com/...and dun worry if you have not gotten everything..we'll be giving them to you on monday..

so what you would need woul be:

BLAZER (To be given out for those who have yet to receive)
PANTS (To be given out for those who have yet to receive)
Long-sleeve collar white shirt
Black leather shoes and black socks.
so yea..that's about it for CO buzz....
sigh..this term..is a very messed up term...somehow I fell very dreamy everyday in school.. maybe I'm juz tired, maybe I couldn't be bothered about studies, maybe I was just thinking about my CCA.
sigh..it's hard to manage time with studies and other activites..I should not be stop playing now and I must start mugging, but why am I not doing so?
becuz of addiction?
becuz of my laziness?
The chinese o' levels are less than a month away and I'm still not doing anything to improve my chinese!! AGRH!!START Mugging!!
sigh...if only I knew what is going on..I feel so lost now..so distracted...and so oblivious to the things around me. like I dun even know what is going on right now, how's my progress, what should I do, where do i go from now...
so dead tired..sigh, Even now, I wonder if I have not completed any homework, what are the homework I have to complete, if there are any projects or events to handle....I"M GOING CRAZY!!!
sigh..I can't even talk about joining the worship team in church this year...if i can't even handle my workload from school...how am I to concentrate on the worship ministry, and serve God wholeheartly.
Now i can't even make sense of what i am typing in this blog post as every problem just flows through my brain and out to my hands, randomly and unorganised.i feel lost now as i can't tidy up what's on my mind, and place it on a shelf like a library, it feels like it each time I try to put things back in place, something or someone would mess it up again.
Maybe, I'm just too worried for the future, a saying from Kongfu Panda once stated"Yesterday is History, Tommorow is a mystery, but Today is a gift" that's why today is also known as the present...lol. We may not know what the future holds, but at least we know that today is the day that the Lord has made..
Like what my friend said, take the o'levels as a challenge, and the assignments as a training platform to face up to this challenge. In my analogy, I guess "taking o'levels as a marathon run, and every homework dumped to me as bananas given to us during the run" is the only enouragement that's sutains me till today in my Sec4 life..hopefully it may be able to do so.
but i would definately need more encouragement to keep going..recently my school had request a company called 'Super Achievers' to conduct a workshop for us students who did not score too well for our Prelim 1.
So now I'm just unsure of wether I should attend this course as my results were quite lousy and the principle strongly encouraged ppl like me to go to the workshop and will call my parents soon to see if i am going.
So to readers out there who had been to this worksop b4, can you share with me how effective this workshop is so that I may be able to decide wether I should go or not?
thanks..will blog again soon, when I have "sober up".

okay, anyway, the sec4 year hasn't been too well as I didn't do too well for my first prelim.
  • English: D7
  • Chinese: C5
  • Elementary Mathematics: D7
  • Additional Mathematics: B4
  • Physics: C5
  • Chemistry: C6
  • Music: A2
  • Combine Humanities: F9
yes, indeed embarrassing but it is best to '示弱' at times, from this I can see which subjects I have to work on and which subjects I can improve on. Hopefully I can retire from CO as soon as the SYF is over so that I can work on my combine humanities, English and E math, B4 it's TOO LATE.
it is undeniable that the O' levels, the major exams in Sec4 and the examination that gives me my first job qualification, is round the corner. Like what Mr.Tan said: "Time Flies", b4 you know it, you are in the examination hall sitting for your Os. And it's only:
so that's basically the entire O' level excluding SPA, Practicals, Orals. indeed time is running. Especially chinese which I am most worried about...
guess I should be going back to work now..hopefully I will have the time to revive this blog again.
till then, all the best to the Sec4s out there for the Ordinary Level Examinations

Message From Australia...

Oh yes, b4 I forget..the ans the my last game..it shall be a video this time

Hard to believe it right...the part I played in the previous game actually came from the phrase in between the first chorus and the second verse...
So for your next challenge..

Song Rec Test 4.mp3 -
  • As usual..
  1. Listen
  2. Guess the Song name and Artist
  3. Find out the Answer on my next Posts
well, just some reminders for my CO members while I'm away...
The practice schedule for sectionals and combine practice are below, scroll down to see . I 've added the English text for those members whose computer cannot load Chinese text.
As for Shawn...I apologize for not informing you about Wednesday's practice being canceled. As it will be extremely expensive to SMS you the schedule, I will appreciate that you can check the blog regularly for the schedules.
The same goes to the rest of the tan bo members..I will NOT be entertaining any message about CO when I'm Australia as you know Auto-roaming services isn't very cheap.
If you know of any tan bo members who does not know the blog URL. Please tell them for me for I will NOT be entertaining SMSs about my blog either. However, that doesn't mean you can skip CO practices. Yes, I understand that practices are getting more intense and sometimes can be a waste of time when the conductor comes late, but just bear with it more a few more practices and you get your 2 weeks break b4 16/12/2008 where you have your next sectionals and 19/12/08 where you have the next combine practice after the break.
Until you retire for CO as Sec4s, stay devoted and committed to CO, I trust that if everyone commits their time and effort to the CO, I believe that you guys will be able to uphold the "GOLD WITH HONORS" standard of CHSCO. Though tickets for participating in the SYF are limited, I believe that all of you will be participating in the SYF as performers in CHSCO if you strive hard to earn the seat in SYF.
To cut it short, enjoy your holiday, spend your time wisely and bear with the CO for a few more months till our SYF is finally over.

Verve Music "School Extravagenza"

I'm back!! The performance is over!! Well, I must say I 've been blessed by God! Oh and b4 i continue, here is the ans for the previous game I mentioned:
  • So for the next trick up my game..it would be even simpler...cuz all you have to to is
  1. Listen
  2. Guess The Song Name and Artist
  3. Wait for the answer on my next posts to see if you got it right.
So for your first test/challenge:
Song Rec Test.mp3 -
So which song does this melody belong to..stay tuned to find out..
well, anyway I really think that I was blessed becuz the performance was totally perfect. Not that I played the perfectly, but rather I managed to finish the song with less than 2 minor mistakes. And these 2 minor mistakes were actually drowned out by the applause from the audience that day. So everything was pretty much perfect to the ear.
Well, as you know that my bro and I are doing PA for this concert so i had to continue to work if after my performance was over. I was mainly the person who setup and the pass the mics to the 2 MCs and setting up the cables for the guitars and so on...so i guess I was not really a PA personnel but rather the stage crew which is cool but I didn't really do a good job there. First, things were missing, like for example the table for the percussion, when like the table used to place the bongo was still inside the guitar room when it was suppose to be backstage...
The place was indeed very crowded on that day, we had a hard time trying the move about from our practice rooms to the waiting room which was our dance room. Especially for the percussion students, they had lessons till 7pm and the event starts at 6.30pm. So we had to interrupt their lesson to bring a low tom, a pair bongo, crash, hi-hat and a snare drum out the room and through the crowds into the props room.
Overall, the event went through quite smoothly with the help of some of our crews and my bro too.. we had performances of songs ranging from genres like:
  • Rock
Waiting Game - Yellowcard
  • Pop
Lucky - Jason Mraz (Feat. Colbie Caillat)
  • R & B
Touch My Body - Mariah Carey
Of course there are lots more performances like the Grand piano Concerto, the piano battle, some musicals and of course the finale six hands piano... Well, for those who didn't make it..I hope this can be a brief review of what happened during my performance. Well, my upcoming event:
Create your countdown widget and more at Blixy.com!

Before i begin writing..let's start with a game..
  • Rules:
  1. Draw lines to connect the boxes indicated with the same number labeled(eg. draw a line from box 1 to another box1)
  2. These lines drawn cannot overlap/cross/touch each other and must be within the boundaries set.
And that's all, but easier said than done...have fun!!
(Answer will be given out in the next posts so stay tuned)
So anyway, that's the game my mom introduced to me, quite challenging but it possible to solve it..
yea.. this week was indeed a challenging week for me as my concert is this Sunday on the 23 Nov and becuz of my "extra" nature, I volunteered to do PA for the concert..though it's just a simple set up..I'm like part-time sound man and part-time performer...
This performance I will be performing the Disney Song: 'Beauty and the Beast":
Beauty And The Beast - Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson
yup, hard to believe it do ya..well, the good thing is that I'm not singing the male part becuz I am a official pianists..well, this concert was purposed to showcase my music school's, Verve Music School, talents and skills that our music students and teachers posses..it's a good way of advertising I guess..
So now, I am well prepared for my performance item no. 8 but not so as a stage crew so I will have to be mentally prepared of what to do after I finished performing..but thank God, my bro is here to help do the sound for that day too so I will have one huge burden gone..so over here i wish to say to my bro:
Thank you for volunteering your help!!
Really grateful!!!
guess I will thank him again after the performance..but oh well just in case I forget...so right now it's only:
Create yours at BlingyBlob.com!
erm..yea the theme for my concert School Extravaganza so if you're coming, dun be shock to see me in school uniform..
oh yea..the time and address is here:
  • Date: 23 Nov 2008
  • Time: 6.30pm to 9.30pm
  • Venue: Verve Music School (Ang Mo Kio Branch)
  • Address: Blk 713, Ang Mo Kio Ave 6, #01-4040, Singapore 560713. (take the staircase beside Banquet Food Court)
