Sister's Day Reflection

hi, guys back again for another update... well, just to let my non-church readers know that I had been recently caught with a church event, Sister's Day.
  • Purpose: To show how much we gentlemen appreciate our ladies in Student Fellowship (SF), and to stress the importance of having our sister's in SF
  • Theme: Masquerade (Prompt Night), hence we wore mask that night...
So, of course everything when quite smoothly surprisingly despite only having our last and only rehearsal on that day itself, I guess our gentlemen here are pretty good at impromptu events...we were like. panicking everywhere. but managed to make things go according to as plan. it was tiring since I happen to be the sound man that day that was running up and down the church...but I did what I had to do:
  • setting up mics
  • Preparing a cable for the piano
  • Prepare audio cable and portable system for the dining area
  • and prepared audio cable at the auditorium for entrance music
and so on...
Well, despite our successful event,I still feel that this event can be improved if we had rehearsals earlier so that we know what we are suppose to do on that day rather than last minuet actions on that day..it put a lot of us under lots of pressure
okay..probably the reason why we had no rehearsals earlier was probably becuz we had not found our members to serve in this event..indeed it was hard since exams are round the corner for most of us, especially those taking O'and A'levels..so it was indeed hard since we did not manage to handle our time well...
However, I would like to praise and thank those who had really participated in the event as despite many challenges and pressure from the last minuet event, we all manage to pull through this difficult time of embarrassment for some and anxiety for others, to serve God and to fulfill our purpose to show the importance's of our ladies.
Especially those in the Skit and the Fashion show, it was really an impromptu time.
okay...the fashion show, juz to elaborate, is where the girls get the dress up our male superhero "models" to their own liking to "give them their own power" or rather to dress them up according to how they want them to be...the "models"will be confronted with questions by the judging panels where the winner is decided by the "model"that can best make his speech or talk in the way they were created by the girls. therefore, they are not speaking in with their own personalities but rather the hero that they are called and dressed up to be...
indeed it wasn't as simple as it looks as we had funny names like, "Blossom the Awesome" who claims that he understand girls the best, "Mr. Save it all"who claims that he can rescue anyone in need and so on...so indeed it was up to the "models" to display their creativity and innovation which I myself might not be able to do so...
As for the skit...we actually had a interactive skit where we get the girls to come up on stage and act to change the outcome of certain scenes. The original skit would be played first b4 the girls get the chance to turn the fate of the story. We had 3 superheroes namely: Ultraman, Spiderman and Pikachu...lol. It was hilarious, especially the way they had fought the giant hamster...i will try to upload the video...
For the skit, though it was not as hard compared to the the fashion show since the results were pretty expected. But it was indeed very hard for our actors to prepare the skit since they only had like one practice to run the show...so indeed I salute to them for their great planning place into the skit itself, indeed it was mainly impromptu all the way when it comes to acting....
Well, the other thing that was quite good was the song dedicated to the girls...it was composed by seb and mat in juz a very short time, it was definitely a touching time for all the girls present as the boys all went up on stage to sing the song. Though me and the AV team did not went up to sing since we had to control the sound and slides, we had to eventually come up on stage for the credits...
We ended of that night we a very romantic supper that night...indeed it was very tempting to start a date that night but i was too caught with the background music that the temptation somehow faded away...well, probably a good way to control myself is to find other things to do I guess...
Well, there are many learning points that we all can learn from this event, these are mine:
  1. Have more than one rehearsals to be fully prepared
  2. Have everything ready b4 the second last rehearsal
  3. Do not spend too much time on planning till there's no time to rehearse
  4. Next time when playing background music...bring along a laptop that has Itunes or Windows Media Player so that a playlist can be created for selected song to make things easier
  5. Don't use PSP to play music
  6. Book the venue in advance for any rehearsals needed
  7. have better balloons so that they do not subsequently burst after a few minutes consecutively
  8. use color filters with coating if needed to be placed on spotlights
  9. Be more organized and know where to be at the right time
  10. To get new 9V batteries for the wireless microphones
  11. To prepare PA items earlier so that a collar microphone can be used
  12. to brief musicians on the way instruments should be connected to the mixer
Well, from these points, i come to realise that with more rehearsals, these problems could have been prevented..as the saying goes, "you life is too short to make all the mistakes in the world" I hope that the sisters will learn from our mistakes and avoid these problems...
With that, I 'll look forward to Brother's Day next year where it is the girls' turn to plan this event for us...
